2022 Chevy Traverse Towing Capacity

2022 Chevy Traverse Parked in Driveway

The 2022 Chevy Traverse towing capacity reaches as high as 5,000 pounds, but you’ll need to equip the available trailering package in order to reach the upper limit. Without the trailering package, the Traverse can only tow up to 1,500 pounds. That might be enough for a small pop-up camper or a very lightweight boat, but we recommend the trailering package to all of Carmel’s most serious weekend warriors.

2022 Chevrolet Traverse: Engine & Towing Features

The 2022 Chevy Traverse towing capacity is impressive—that much is plain to see. But this model’s capabilities are the result of engineering decisions that deserve close attention from all potential buyers and lessees! Here’s what you should know about the towing performance of the latest Chevy Traverse:

  • V6 Engine: Every model comes standard with a 3.6-liter V6 engine that outputs 310 horsepower and 266 lb-ft of torque. That’s more than enough power for daily drives through Noblesville and Westfield, and more than enough to get a trailer up to speed.
  • Trailering Package: You know that you’ll need the trailering package to tow up to 5,000 pounds, but what does this package include? In addition to a hitch, the package includes a heavy-duty cooling system that allows your engine to work harder with fewer risks.
  • Tow/Haul Mode: Your Traverse includes a Tow/Haul mode drive setting that you should engage whenever you hook up a trailer or load up the cabin with cargo. Its most important feature is the ability to stay in a lower gear for a longer period of time, resulting in greater torque delivery as you get up to speed. It also adjusts your speed by downshifting when you’re moving downhill—so you don’t have to pump the brakes.
  • Trailer Sway Control: As part of your StabiliTrak® Electronic Stability Control System, you’ll receive Trailer Sway Control. The feature automatically course-corrects if it detects that your trailer is beginning to lose its solid footing.

If you don’t think you’ll need to tow up to 5,000 pounds, the Equinox towing capacity may be sufficient for your needs. If you have bigger dreams, the 2022 Silverado 2500 towing capacity might feel like a better fit.
